I remember this trip well- it was the first trip post-COVID vaccination, a quick local one to the coast from the bay area.  We were excited to take the kids to the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is where I snapped the reference photo that led to this painting looking towards the Hopkin's Marine Station.  We were nervous but desperate to enjoy the world again.  It was a spectacular morning, just as the fog was burning off, bringing out the intense blues from the sky in the water.  Such a sense of hope.
